Wednesday, March 19 saw our Coffee Club gain two new members – Lyle Martin of the Coraki RSL Sub-branch and Peter Richardson. We extend a warm welcome to our new members. We had one of our members in hospital in March, Bill Smith, but he is now out and doing well. You want to keep up your swimming, Bill. There were letters from Steve Cansdell and Janelle Saffin, saying that they will gladly accept as patrons of our sub-branch. Many thanks to you both. On Sunday, March 23, there were about 80 people who attended the Bingo afternoon and the jackpot of $800 didn’t go off, so it will be held over until the Christmas period. (There are a few Bundies in that jackpot). On Wednesday April 2, we had two visitors from the Ballina Ex-Services Homes – Paul Morris and David Fuller, who both spoke about the progress for the Evans Head Retirement Home and it looks like it is full steam ahead. Another visitor to the club was Phillip Consalus
from the Lismore RLS Sub-branch. Phillip Many thanks to everyone who helps to make these gatherings a success. Tom Durbidge had two reasons to celebrate on Anzac Day as it was his birthday. Hope you enjoyed yourself, Tom, and many happy returns from all the sub-branch members. A few of us attended Remembrance Day, on Friday, April 11, at the Evans Head K- 12 School and also at the Broadwater Public School. Thank you to both of these schools for inviting members of the Woodburn-Evans Head Sub-branch to attend these services and give us the opportunity to talk to all these children. It is great to see schools involved with Remembrance and Anzac days. The future is after all in their hands. Best of luck to them all. Kevin Saville, Keith Staff, Tom Durbidge, John Broughton and John Lenon attended the Broadwater Public School for the Remembrance Service and the children’s parents made scones and tea afterwards. It was terrific. Many thanks to the principal, Bill Wilson, and his staff and the young children for our wonderful morning. The members who attended K-12 Evans Head School were Adam Henderson, Kevin Lever and Peter Gardiner. The service was held in the gymnasium and the address was done by Adam Henderson. Our thanks go to the children, principal Rob Walker and staff for the morning. Cheers to all, John Lenon |
