For the past few months, on Monday and Tuesday mornings about 10 am, several of the dedicated sub-branch members have been seen digging the weeds out of the gardens, trimming the shrubs at the front of the club and laying weed mesh and chips down to help slow the weed growth and to beautify the grounds.

A new RSL sign has also been erected on the top of the club. Hopefully, this will make it easier for any new visitors to town to locate the club.

On Wednesday, February 27, we had our AGM and about 60 members were present, with five women from the Women’s Auxiliary in attendance. They were: Mary Scully, Daphne Riley, Carmel Hyde, Deirdre Harvey and Jody Harvey. Thanks to the girls for taking the time to attend the meeting and in making sure that we don’t play up at these Coffee Club meetings.

Sub-branch office bearers are: President Darryl Pobje (unanimous vote by members), vice-presidents Keith Staff and Kevin Saville, secretary John Saunders, assistant secretary Adam Henderson, treasurer John Fredreskin (Kevin Lever retired from this position after six years), welfare Harold Rowlands and Ron Follers, North Coast delegates Matt Mealing and Peter Dawson and publicity officer John Lenon.

Congratulations are in order for the above personnel for these positions in the sub-branch. The meeting was presided over by the one and only Kevin (Sambo) Saville, who always does a good job when these meetings happen. We had a report from David Fuller, from the Ballina Homes, on the ongoing Evans Head Retirement Homes. We had two guests with us, ex-Army Ray Lunt and ex-Sapper (Engineer).

Vietnam Bill Smith who comes from Brisbane and also became a member of the RSL Club.

After the meeting was closed, everyone adjourned to the bar and bistro for a light snack and a few cold ales.

On Wednesday, March 5, there were about 50 members who turned up for our normal meeting, and we had two guests – Peter Richardson, ex-Army, and Peter Lowe, ex-Navy. On Wednesday, March 12, we had a visitor from Bribie Island Queensland – Ian Brown, ex-Artillery – Vietnam (The Long Range Snipers). It is good to see all these guests at our club and many of them becoming members and returning each year.

Finally, our news updates are being posted on to the RSL Club’s web site for all to view. The web site is: www. woodburnevansheadrsl.com.au. Telephone number: 6682 4282. Until next month – enjoy your club.

Cheers to all, John Lenon
