Email Daniel Fox

We welcome Daniel Fox to the RSL Club and to Evans Head, Tania and I sat down with Daniel for a long interview and a few beers.

Daniel Fox new Assistant CEO of the Woodburn-Evans Head RSL Club has come to us from the Grafton District Services Club where he worked as Operations Manager (covering for Sub Managers when they were on leave) for just over 2 years and prior to this he was at the South Sydney Junior Rugby League Club where he worked from 1989 until May 2006.

Daniel, 37, and his wife – a nail technician, were impressed with the location of the club when first coming to Evans Head for his interview. They are living in Evans Head at present and would like to settle here permanently after selling off property in Sydney.  Daniel is currently studying an online Accounting Degree.

A few things that will take some getting used to after coming from Grafton is the lack of a choice for supermarkets, a Commonwealth Bank (not agent) and the shock of council not providing bins for recycling.  Though he does believe that this seachange is a great decision and hopes to make the most of it.

A keen sportsman, Daniel is interested in Touch, Oztag, Cricket and all types of water sports.  He was once a keen player of Rugby League and Union.  An avid Rabbitohs fan (although almost changing to the Titans) he spends much time watching their games and cheering them on to the finals.  Cricket being his favorite sport (not 20/20) though not a purist as he likes One Day Matches, but finds Test Matches a bit boring.

Daniel is a firm believer of “bums on seats” and has plans in mind to increase patronage through in-house promotions and giveaways, to continue with the free shows as well as a variety of ideas he is bouncing around.  He also has plans to research with the holidaymakers what they are looking for in a club; also he believes the club needs to cater more for young families.

Development in Evans Head and the club is both beneficial and positive.  The extensions to the club are a direct reaction to club climate and will include an alfresco gaming area with poker machines, lounge and will cater to both smokers & non-smokers. There is also a DA in to council for a deck out the back of the club (this has not been approved as yet).

Daniel feels that Evans Head is landlocked unless further development is allowed and then sees the town moving west towards Woodburn, but feels also that the town will lose its village atmosphere if it expands.

The Club is in a good financial position at present, being on the verge of their renovations.  The new board was elected recently with Daniel being surprised at the lack of nominations for the positions of Directors with the position being filled from the floor.  He has met with the new Board of Directors and said they are very professional in their manner and the way they conduct their meetings.

Daniel has found the staff to be great - very helpful and friendly.  The staff is always updating their skills and training and must hold an RSA ticket.  He has plans to meet with Glen from the Bistro to discuss his plans for the future.

The Fishing Classic he believes is extremely good both economically and socially for Evans Head and the Club.  I Told Daniel how Nev dressed up during the Classic as a “lady of the night” he said he would be willing to have a go as well next year.  Good to see he’s not scared of a little fun. And I being the Classic Photographer will make sure that he will be on stage wearing a 2 piece lingerie set with the pink wig, and you could well become the owner of the much sought after Jackoroo Jacket.

Being a keen charter fisherman himself, Daniel loves deep sea fishing with Blue Eyed Cod and Pearl Perch being his favorite catch.  He would love to catch a Venus tusk.
